Poetry & Prose of Carol Ammons

We, Our Ancestors Are Talking ( Are We Both On the Same Wavelength?)
Do not go ho-hum.
Or having a case of the mind going numb.
Here us out, for we are not " dumb" .

If we are eager to further better ourselves
Knowledge is in store for us to have in many places,
Not just on bookstore and library shelves.
There are times when new stories come up
About the persons and families that make us up
That can make us feel like we are on a mountains top
If you matter who you are, and are willing
To dig for the information and facts, you can find it fascinating.
For it is indeed an ongoing thing.

The knowledge obtained is treasure
For our parts of mankind and can be hard to measure
Its impact as it continues on their life time tour.

Share your precious memories
With those others who truly have the desire
To keep them alive
So that the family heritage will survive
And have special meanings which anyone
Who desires to, can willingly give
For our actions will precede the future
And posterity we are to have.
How much of our past for them do we want to save?
Are we wanting to remain quiet and
Going into obscurity, or make good impressionable waves?

During The Holidays
During the holidays, there seems to be no rest
For the ones who work so they can afford the best
They would wear themselves to a frazzle
So they can have things that dazzle
People would like things that are more than the basics
But in the lifetime to get them
Almost require a lifestyle of a three-ring circus
People are glad when those days are over for a while
So they can watch television with the
Push of a button instead of turning a dial
They may continue for a time to be excited about their presents
Or the newness may wear off quickly
In a time of tirade of incense
It can be the season to be merry or happy,
But it can be the time for mixed feelings or emotions for the ones who
Are trying to shake the loneliness.

Is a Manipulator Anything Else?
Is a manipulator anything else?
Is it someone or something on something
Or someone else's pulse?
Is it a persuader that pushes something
To do a thing, or a set of things it does
Not want to do?
Is it a disciplinarian that persuades or
That teaches a good or bad lesson to you?
What are your thoughts on what a manipulator is?
I would like to know your thoughts on this!

We the Disabled, We the Challenged
We who have disabilities and challenges
That cover a wide range
And put in our and your lives a change

We want, if we are able, to also be Useful
We do not want to have our
Lives more empty or null
We can make demands to better ourselves
Much more full.

We do not want ourselves to go to waste.
For if we can make a positive change for those
Around us, we do have a place
And bring forth a difference.
A notable difference.

We are sensitive to others who
Have disabilities and challenges.
We want to have those who consider themselves normal
To see what we have in abilities
That we do have where if possible, where we live
And travel in towns, country or various cities.

We live in a world of harsh reality, not pretend
So, keep helping us to keep our chin
Up when activities and events that we attend
Each year so that we can continue to return.

Sometimes it is hard to get going in the morning
After the clock's loud beep or ring
Weather or not enough sleep has been gained
The look on one's face can be pained

The rumpled bed looks so enticing-
But the paycheck can not depend to be full
When it is work one is passing.
It should be a day handled with care.
Maybe it will be a good day for one's hair.
Carol Lee Ammons

How much experience does it take to teach someone
The lessons of life so that they are
Properly, adequately done?
It can depend on how much or little
Attention is paid to the subject.
Plus, dedication is another important facet.
Making it more so interesting than the usual
Stereotypical way will help in greater knowledge
Imparted and absorbed from what you say
It can be a challenge to share information
That someone else needs to be really known
Will it hurt, really hurt them to have their storage of information grow?
The remembrance of information or data
Can be concerning trivial, or more important facts
Find, use only the truth with a good degree of tact
When it is someone else who is wanting
To be an avid learner
And you are the eager one as the teacher, mentor.

Instant Gratification And Patience
Do not fret.
Do not forget.
For what riches on Earth we do not get,
In His heaven we will net

There are people who want instant gratification
But for those who wait for the best of things
Will have the best satisfaction
For those who wait will show their skill
Of patience
And those who want instant gratification
when they get their want
Will they be as nice; or
Become snobby and act about as
Cold as ice?

To much instant gratification
Will eventually will those
Who want it sorry
With a heavy mental load of Sorry
Those who learn to have Patience
Will also have a personality
Considered as nice
Carol Lee Ammons

Does Familiarity?
Does familiarity breed contempt because
A person can see only the mistakes of someone else
Or is it because what they fear is what
They learn to spite or even hate
Do they ever want to learn that
What they already know could/can
Be a very wrongfull mess
And clean it up to a new level, new state
So they can be seen as better ones
Seeking the truth, not just hounding
Others with the lies that they do not want
Have light shine upon them
Are you really that familiar with
Someone else that you can go beyond
Just the mistakes
To ease or eliminate the potential for problems
By giving honest help instead of
Doing various acts of dignity taking
That makes them feel down
Instead of cheering them up
Or let them nearly drown
In hurt or depression instead of helping
Make it to the top.

A Loving Tribute
He took us to different beaches
For he made sure they were within reach.
He took us to different mountains
And cities like New Orleans- home of Pete Fountain.

He took us to and through different towns
Across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
He opened our minds to new sites, not
Shut them down.
Even though we didn't travel around
The world, the world we saw made us
Say our share of oohs and ahs.

He was caring, diplomatic.
He enriched our lives, was realistic.
He ingrained in us characteristics
That will never leave us poorer.
Carol Lee Ammons

Some Of Us Can Change
Some of us can change
From a subtle, narrow to a wide range
To better ourselves for each day of our future.
Even though there are days which bring us
Things of which any one of us are not sure
At their start, we can humbly ask in our
Prayers to Him for guidance
If we follow His instructions to the end
Of each problem or crisis, in the end, both He
And the sinners will rejoice.
Do not continue to dredge up someone's
Bad past to continue to make them feel down-
For if you intentionally forget any of their
Acts and try to shoo them with disgusting frown,
The Lord could possibly forget, or not remember any of yours
Then your plan to subdue any persons good can turn sour.
Please note the change or changes for the good
And the repentant soul and the Godhead
Will all be in a better mood.

His Last Trip To Memphis
It has been a year since his
Last trip to Memphis
So it brings up tender, sensitive
Feelings when I write this
Three days before that sad
Morning of February 28, 2006,
My father who was at home at the
Time, called out that he was sick.
My mother called on the right
Personnel to get him to the county hospital.
It turned out to be his last
Trip to Memphis after all.
For three days later, he passed
On to a better place
It was, in the meantime,
That time space
He enjoyed my mother and me
Giving him much desired comfort and attention,
For he gave service to protect the
People of this very nation.
The Memphis that I talked before
In this poem is in Missouri-
No offence to the citizens of Tennessee
He was buried in the Pleasant Grove
Cemetery in Gorin, Missouri
Next to his parents, Vera Boltz and
Charles Isaac Ammons- almost 82 ( eighty-two)
Years after being born in Florida in a
small town called Lacoochee.

Do You?
Do you want to be a troublemaker
Or you rather be a heartbreaker

Reporting trouble the right way
Should not make the innocent pay

If you think that making it painful for others to be right
Is fun, then, what you do think it is
For those who feel the news within
The senses range can be making them uptight?

When you spread or broadcast news
About an incident beyond where it is
Supposed to go,
Where can justice be due?

Why, if someone reports to the proper
People, is it considered trouble?
If it is leaving someone unable
To but defend themselves, is it that all you are able

To defend yourself along with a false sense of security
And an occasional dose of coercion to
Show more false friendship to anyone
Who you have stuck in your mind as a liability
So, if it is true friendship that you want to dose out
Or administer,
Why do you want to do something over and over
That is sinister?

We Are More Than Just Friends
We are more than just friends, Virginia.
Even though you are older by a number of years,
We share the date of February sixth as our birthday.
I hope that I was a bundle of joy to my
Parents when I was born
For I was born on an icy winter morn
I hope that in many ways we warmed
Our parents hearts-
For we each shall continue in each other's lives
Play the parts
That go beyond just being ordinary friends
It is indeed special enough that we share
the same birthday
I care of you,
And also Happy Birthday, and Happy St. Valentines Day!
From your friend,
Carol Lee Ammons

Weight Control
Weight control
It is not easy for people
Who complain about their weight
To stick with a prescribed diet.
The temptation, they say,
Is not under their control?
Do they really want to have the role
Of having the responsibility and ability to say " no" ,
When they are in the know,
Of what can cause their weight gain,
Or does it cause them pain?
If they take certain medicine that sheds the pounds
They should seek advice from a doctor that is sound.
The balance for weight control is there.
Will they find it?
The thing is, if they find it, will they stick to it?
Or will they cheat,
And later have to admit defeat?
How many people have tried more than one diet?
How many times have they said,
" Forget it!"
Do they want to hear someone
Tell them to eat less,
And sticking to it, will achieve their success?
They can resist the idea to eat more.
The more weight they loose,
Their lives will not be a bore.

Happy At Heart
The sun was not up yet
However, the woman awoke and looked at her pet
She wanted to get on with the outside chores
Before it got too hot beyond her house's doors
She wanted to take care of the rest of her animals
For she thought of them as friends, pals
They returned her kindness by letting
Her pet their young.
For she talked to them in a gentle tongue
She wanted to have more out of her life
She tried to erase the unsettling quiet
That could be cut with a knife
But that did not work to completely rid her
Of her desire for someone to make her happy
She wondered numerous times,
" When is it going to happen to me?"
At least several years passed before her prayer was answered
A younger man came by as she had hoped
They kept each other company after they
Found a preacher to marry them.
She kept a special place in her heart for him.
And he had admiration for the ways
She kept things running rather smoothly.
For each of them chose to work
Either singly or together, in harmony.
So blessed was their lives
As husband and wife
Carol Lee Ammons

Contemplation
She was in a state of contemplation-
Trying to visualize what the future would hold.
Her mind had a mixture of emotions
Wondering how much longer she would get
The shoulder cold.
She wanted the opportunities that she
Could use to better herself
For she knew of various ways that she
Could be of help
If only society would not stereotype
People like here who had the abilities
To make the essential differences
In someone else more than what the
Eyes can originally see
For also touching down deep is what
She has as an example
She wants society to see not just the
Disability, but also in what ones like her
Are quite capable.

A Person Awakes
A person awakes-
Irritated, they find it is still dark
A room down the hall emits noise
Of a loud sort-its more than they can take-
For it is not enough sleep time for
Which they laid down their weary body;
The clock lets them quietly see,
And with a release of a groan, they want more sleep,
More sleep that hopefully would run deep.
But would it come back,
Or would weariness come back to attack?
Carol Lee Ammons

Something Called Grit
What would one in their mind call grit?
Would it be having a resolute sprit
Filled with determination to get
Anything started, and to finish it
The ability to forge ahead with
The power nobody will forget
Can be found in quite a number
of people who do not want to call it quits
They want to call their lives a success
Each life is filled with wins and losses
How much appreciation does each
One give to the losses that more grit
Is show in the successes
If the score indicate what effort
Should go into the lifes various tosses
The more grit one shows in life
Show the unwillingness to back down
When they are right.
The pursuing of a purpose being
fulfilled will depend on what is set
In ones foresight.
But lack of creative purpose can put one,
or even a group down the wrong track
Destructive will power can take
number of years to recover from the attack
Certain civilizations have shown
Resolve, or grit, to stay alive
Yes, in our memories, but not each as
A civilization that still prospers and survives
As it formerly did in its times
Of height and glory
Now there are silent partners
That tell their stories with
Impressions of how different past histories
Can alter present-day history.
Even though the pictures make no sound
The revelations that were left
Behind can pound
Into our minds
Stories can confound, or be profound.

A Game Of Baseball If You Please!
Strike one. The crowd groans-
They want a home run.
Ball one. The crowd murmurs in anticipation.
They still want the big one.
Strike two. Even a louder groan.
It is not the way to go ahead
Score done
Ball two. The signs start popping up.
Some are holding on their cups
Thought of a Strike? Out of the question
They want the big HR now.
They want it DONE!
Ball three. It creates more
Of an uproar. The ball is hit
Hard. UP, up into the upper deck it soars!
Inside, Home Run! It is what the majority
Of the home crowd wants.
There are however a few taunts.
Our side the Park run. Some want
A really big one. But today is not the
Time for it to be done.

It Can Be Hard To Get Inspired
Sometimes when the time is
spent in situations that are boring.
Without motivation for ideas,
It is hard to get ones spirit going or
Even soaring.
Being original when one does write can be tiring.
Like searching nearly high and low
For a good employer who is hiring
There are those who do not want to
Spin their wheels
When a desire is not met, a person
Cannot fully heal.
Certain people are used by the Lord
To start or finish certain aspects of His work
They are expected to do a proper
Share of it and not shirk
To be asked by the Lord to do something
Should be considered a very special perk
One should be glad to pitch in and not
Be irked.

The New Day
The new day looks dreary
The body aches, feels weary
The body wants to stay in bed
But the mind says, " get to work instead."

The body reluctantly says, " Okay, but I am only one."
But the mind says, " You will get the days job done."

The body says,
" What if I can not get all of them finished today?"
But the mind says, " Finish them tomorrow.
It will be better for you - a new day."

Bring Some Sunshine
Bring some sunshine with you on a rainy day
Gladness should be in what one does and says
It will lift anyones spirit or morale which is low
Do not just say to yourself that you will do it,
And the result shows a " no" .

Too much negativism has been going around.
Would more of a balance of good news be found
To cheer a good number of us up
To help us feel like we are more on top.

Not slide up and down the emotional roller coaster
With angry words making us feel warn or hot
Emotions like something from in oven or a toaster
Or cool our desire or willingness to respond
To do a days worth of helpful deeds.
That would be a loss or wasted day indeed!

If one brings some sunshine into someone else's whole being
It can or could prompt thoughts of happiness,
or even try to sing praises that surprisingly, really make your day
Helping you remember good, fond memories
At what those people did say.

When especially when you turn in for a good night's rest
They will attest that
It is better to continue to create and repeat
A foundation of education
Put to the test.
That will show that youre among the best.
Bring the sunshine in
It will be the right thing
We all need its warmth and light
To take it in when situations are not very bright.
Carol Lee Ammons

The day started out partly cloudy
As it wore on, there was increasing humidity
An increase in clouds caused a drop in temperature
But what about the barometric pressure
There was more of a softball practice to be played
So far it was a moderately good one, to be said
Rain was mentioned for in the forecast in this area,
But did not fall.
Carol Lee Ammons

Give Us Respect, Okay?
We all want respect. When it is time, we demand it.
We want others to give each one of us undivided attention.
For we are each points of interest.
WE ARE INTERESTING, NOT BORING!
That is a fact.
It is for a number of us difficult to stand out
While mingling with others in a crowd. But while we
Are asked or called upon to be a spokesperson
For those with either a mental or physical disability,
Or as certain individuals want to have it be told,
Challenges, how often do we step up to the home plate to
Attempt to get a series full of home runs for the persons
That we ourselves represent.

We, at times, have to take bold initiatives to meet
What we are facing with these limitations that make us
Focus on an ever awakening reality.
It is so that others shall be awakened from the doldrums of
Ignorance or apathy to the likely future situation that may place
Them in a similar place and time.

Those who do not have such facing of realities
Such as, we do may not realize how our lives are affected by a number of factors
Found in our culture or society. We must stand up for those who are not as able to say
For themselves what they want or need.
For deep within them comes determination
To so much get out of a hurt mind or make it work harder to
Adequately get recognition for the successes, little or big,
To help them advance forward.

Whoever can also see the love or fear that they show
For the ones that show various degrees of attention
To their desires and needs.
At times, they return the unexpected in different ways.
It is hard to decipher the reactions that are more than close to the surface.
It takes the right amount of patience,
Tuning in and kindness in their care for them to respond.
This is good for all who need that special attention and respect to help face
And cope with the less pleasant aspects of their reality.

You like respect, eh. We who are disabled or challenged
Would like support thats respectable too!
Carol Lee Ammons

What Makes A Champion A Champion?
If someone were to ask for a meaning of the word champion, what would come to mind? To me, a champion can be described briefly in the following lines.

A champion is not one who takes the easy road to the winners circle. A champion works, practices long to succeed or achieve each goal that they desire. Doing things the right way up to the last detail can make top-notch in society. This means that sloppiness has no part in their efforts to be stopped.

It makes no difference whether you have a mental or physical disability or challenge. If one puts in a high degree of performance in their work, and not shirk to succeed in the endeavors that face them each day, they can count themselves as a champion.

Even when someone loses, and they can portray themselves as each being good sports to a number of others, they can be thought of also as champions. Champions should not lose their friendly, and welcome ways, and become snobs. It is for this they should try to keep a positive spirit and attitudes for the next stage of their life. The importance of doing this is to let their influence on society be noticed as really being a beneficial one.

Society should rightly thank their champions. The champions worked hard to make it into the winner's position. More of society should do that as well, the right way. They earned it. Should not more of us strive to be the best?

Do You Care?
Do you care
To not compare
Yourself to someone else
Who has more?
They undoubtedly have debt
That would otherwise
Make them poor.
If they would not have
Their handy credit card.
And departing from that
Little item would be hard.
Cutting the line of credit,
Would cut like a sword
Make do with what you've got
And do not go into debt,
That is not hard.
That if followed,
will be followed by rewards.
